STC or Service Tax Registration Number is like PAN which is used for Income Tax return filings and various communication with Income Tax Department, the same way STC is used for Service Tax Return filings and various communication with Service Tax department. It is unique identification number allotted by Service Tax Department to Assessee which is PAN based

It is 15 digit Alpha-Numeric Number.

Structure of Service Tax Registration Number or STC:

1st 10 Digit	Next 2 digit	Next 3 digit
PAN	ST or  SD (in some cases)	Sequential Number running from 001 to 999 which indicates no. of premises for which registration is taken

 

Example:

Assessee whose PAN is ABCDK4567Z then Service Tax registration number would be ABCDK4567ZST001 (it is random number for just understanding purpose, not actual STC number)
