Excise Registration Number is the similar to Service Tax Registration Number in Structure and unique identification number assigned by Excise Department. Same way like STC for service tax returns, PAN for Income tax returns - excise registration number is required for filing excise returns and various communication with Excise Department.

Structure of Excise Registration Number:

It is PAN based 15 digit Alpha-Numeric Code.

1st 10 Digit	Next 2 digit	Next 3 digit
PAN	XM - Manufacturers XD - Dealers	Sequential Number running from 001 to 999 which indicates no. of premised registered

 Example:

Assessee whose PAN is ABCDK4567Z then Excise registration number would be ABCDK4567ZXM001 (it is random number for just understanding purpose, not actual Excise Registration number)
